McCray Checks In From Israel

Happy New Year!! It’s 2011!!

It’s time for another update from Israel! I can remember the last time I updated you all in 2010, but I was very excited about the much needed break for Christmas. I spent 10 days between my homes in Florida and Kansas visiting with my family and friends. It was a short and sweet break! I enjoyed my time at home and had an amazing Christmas. The worst part of the trip was returning! I spent my New Year’s on the plane headed back overseas! Yes, my New Year’s celebration was on a Continental airplane en route to Tel Aviv…

The return to Israel was smooth. I’ve been back here about three weeks now and basketball is still going good. We are 8-6. Since we are a new team to the league, a lot of spectators are very surprised with our record and team play. We are in round two of the season and each game we’ve been improving as a unit and doing well! I have been putting in extra time with my coach Shira, focusing on my individual skills. And one thing I can say is that she has been working me REALLY hard. Sweating before practice even starts! Sheesh! But it has been paying off.

Being around family is the best, especially when you are in a country away from everyone. I have been blessed to have my family come and visit me for a whole week in Israel. My Mom, Granny and two aunts came to visit. We have been enjoying each other. It’s been great. Yesterday we got a huge win over the defending champions in the league last year, Ramat Hasharon!! It was good to play in front of my family and get the win. Part of the family trip was to watch me play and visit Israel, and today was a tour day for us.

I showed them around in Jerusalem and we all had a great time in the Dead Sea and spa. We took pictures floating in the Dead Sea and taking mud baths. Mud baths were by far the best experience, and everyone says it is good for your skin. We were all covered with black mud. We spent a good four hours in the Sea and touring Masada and Jerusalem This was one trip that we all will never forget and blessed to have the opportunity to do it! I will have them in my company for three more days, and I will enjoy every moment of it.

To wrap things up, our next game is Monday vs. Elitzur Rishon. It will be a good one. Battle of the Rishon teams: Hapoel Rishon (my team) vs Elitzur Rishon. Wish us good luck!

Until next time, D. McCray!!!
