Shock Fall To Mystics

The Tulsa Shock scored just four points in the second quarter on a franchise-low one field goal as they fell to the Washington Mystics 69-54 at the BOK Center on Saturday.

“It was a difficult night for us field goal wise and it was a difficult night again on the boards," Head Coach Nolan Richardson said. “The two departments that are killing us are our rebounding situation, which we’re hoping to correct, and our turnover situation.”

The Shock’s four-point second quarter tied the WNBA record for the lowest scoring output in a single quarter. The last time this occurred was Seattle at Indiana on June 13, 2007.

Washington led 30-to-19 at halftime and extended its lead to 15 in the third quarter before the Shock cut it to three, but that was as close as they would come.

Richardson received his first technical foul as a head coach in the league after Alexis Hornbuckle went down with an injury on a fast break late in the fourth quarter. After the game, Hornbuckle was diagnosed with a sprained ankle and is scheduled to be further evaluated in the days to come.

Tulsa guard Shanna Crossley played in her first game after missing the previous four due to a leg injury. She finished with 11 points and four steals and hit her first two three-point attempts in the first half.

“It is so nice to get playing again,” Crossley said. “I hate sitting out and the last two years that’s all I’ve been doing with injuries and now with this thing, it’s definitely nice to get back on the floor and not be in my spectator clothes anymore.”

Four Washington players (Coleman, Melvin, Sanford, Langhorne) finished with at least eight rebounds on the night. Mystics out rebounded the Shock 45-26 in the ballgame. The Mystics were led by Monique Currie, who scored 17 points despite hitting just three field goals. She was 11 of 12 from the charity stripe.

The loss was Tulsa’s tenth straight, the longest streak of its kind this season. They will be back in action when they travel to Indianapolis to take on the Indiana Fever on July 8th.
